Bistro Year 1673 at Malacca

A Cosy Bistro in Jonker Street’s Dutch Heritage Building

Bistro Year 1673 in Malacca is a cosy all-day establishment with an open-air courtyard, antique furnishing and an ambience that exudes an old school charm. Located on the famous Jonker Street, Bistro Year 1673 offers great western cuisine as well as reasonably priced happy hour promotions for those who want a sip of ice cold beer after a long day, with light music and cultural entertainment in the evenings.

This bistro is housed in a two-storey Dutch heritage building, constructed back in 1673 during the era of Dutch colonisation. This magnificent building was occupied by the Verenige Oostindische Company (VOC), an East India company for the purpose of tax collection for Malacca Port. Taking design cues from pre-war Chinese and colonial architecture, the building is now beautifully restored and is well regarded as the oldest building in Jonker Street.

Opened in November 2010, Bistro Year 1673 is divided into two spacious dining sections. The indoor dining area houses many antique wooden furnishings with elaborate carvings which results in a vintage and cosy ambience – a stark contrast to most night time hotspots in Malacca. There is also a stairway which leads to the top floor where guests can rest on plush sofas while enjoying an elevated view of the busy street below.

During late evenings and breezy nights, guests can unwind with their favourite pint at the al fresco dining area. With a shaded and narrow alleyway that leads to an open-air courtyard, the area is often packed with weary travellers after a long day exploring Jonker Street’s many antique stores and historical attractions.

The seating is spaciously arranged in Bistro Year 1673 yet still leaves enough room to strike up a conversation with nearby diners, resulting in a chatty and friendly environment. Offering professional entertainment, guests can watch live band performances at the bistro every night from 20:00 onwards. Free Wi-Fi is also provided.

Aside from an extensive selection of beers and cocktails, Bistro Year 1673 also serves Western, Peranakan, Chinese and of course, Malaccan delicacies. Catering to traditional and modern tastes, customers can soak up the warm atmosphere while awaiting offerings of pizza, spaghetti, rib-eye steak, lamb shank, beef tenderloin, and tiramisu. We recommend pairing your favourite tipple with a side of Lychee Prawns: six golden crispy rolls with the prawns stuffed into the pockets of lychee fruits. The bistro also offers daily happy promotions from 14:00 to 19:00, where guests can enjoy five bottles of beer in a bucket for less than RM70 or a draught jug beer for less than RM30.

With a winning combination of friendly and helpful staff, lively atmosphere, great music, as well as wide array of delicacies and cocktails, Bistro Year 1673 is the place to go for a relaxing evening or late night dinner with friends and loved ones.
