A’Famosa Water World In Malacca

Alor Gajah Atttractions

A’Famosa Water World is a 20-acre theme park within A’Famosa Resort. It is about 30 minutes from Melaka and an hour from KL. Popular with Malaysian and Singaporean tourists, it is a family oriented park: besides the water attractions at Water World, there is a huge ‘zoo’ at Animal World Safari.

It is not Disneyland by a long shot, but the theme park is one of Malacca’s most popular day-time attractions. Surprisingly, it is not usually listed in travel books, probably due to its relatively out-of-the-way location in Alor Gajah. The only water park in Malaysia’s southern region, it is divided into two sections: Water World and the 150 acre Animal World Safari.

Water World

A’ Famosa Water World is not the place for adrenaline fanatics and roller coaster junkies; instead it caters to families. If you want G-force thrills you will have to head to Sunway Lagoon or Genting Theme Park in KL.

The Water World section undoubtedly sees the most visitors. There are over half a dozen water slides spread out through several themed areas. Kids are well catered for with a zone especially designed for them, known as the Arabian Village. It is an Aladdin-esque water playground with slides and all the trimmings resembling magic lamps and flying carpets.

Signature ride

Those looking for a bit of excitement will enjoy Water World’s signature attraction, the high velocity Seven Storey High-Speed Slide. Perhaps you should only try this ride if you are ready for major drops. It is probably the best ride in the whole A’Famosa Water World theme park and kicks off with a long climb to the top before a hair-raising plunge downward. Though the queue for this ride is long, it is well worth it and the best way to experience that awesome ‘flying’ sensation.

Animal World Safari

When not speeding down the two, seven-storey high speed slides, or cruising down the ‘river’ on inner tubes or perfecting your tan on the manmade beach, there are many other attractions in A’Famosa Water World you can enjoy. Those in the mood for dry land activities can head to Animal World Safari: this section of the park has various animals on display (almost like a zoo). However, its most entertaining attraction is the animal ‘shows’ that feature a variety of critters dressed in human clothing mimicking human behavior.

Good to know about A'Famosa Water World

When you are tired of all the rides, go shopping in one of the park’s souvenir stores or even grab a bite to eat at the restaurants here. There are two steakhouses (Bamboo Steakhouse and The Ranch), a Chinese restaurant (Huang Hi) and plus a café with local food.

A’Famosa Water World is located in Alor Gajah and you can get there using the North-South highway from KL, and then exiting via several ‘gates’ or major roads that lead into the resort. It is worth noting that a special rate of RM75 (adults) and RM60 (kids) gets you into both the Animal World Safari and Water World.
